Retreat To The Wilderness At Nyala Safari Lodge
Set along the banks of the seasonal Mohlabetsi River, Nyala Safari Lodge is an intimate, boutique safari lodge blending laid-back luxury with uninterrupted bushveld serenity. With just five thatched rondavels accommodating a maximum of 10 guests, Nyala is a haven for those seeking privacy, luxurious comfort, and to be immersed in nature.
Shaded by ancient jackalberry and Boer-bean trees, the lodge’s main area features a wraparound viewing deck that follows the natural curve of the river, providing panoramic views of the wilderness beyond. Each of Nyala’s five chalets is elegantly styled with earthy interiors, light wood finishes, and a calming palette inspired by the surrounding bush. Thoughtfully designed and beautifully curated, each room blends rustic charm with understated elegance.
Whether it’s relaxing by the pool, soaking in a candlelit bath, or watching elephants move silently across the riverbed, Nyala Safari Lodge promises a deeply restorative, slow-paced safari experience in the Greater Kruger.

Location
Located in the Balule Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger and home to the Big 5, with open borders to Kruger National Park. It’s about a 6-hour drive from Johannesburg. Self-drivers leave their vehicles at the gate, with a 40-minute transfer to camp. Most guests fly into O.R. Tambo and connect to Hoedspruit-Eastgate Airport.
Lodge & Rooms
The lodge’s social spaces are equally inviting. A central boma looks out over a nearby waterhole, making it the perfect spot for starlit dinners and storytelling around the fire. A cosy lounge, open-plan kitchen, and elegant dining area round out the communal spaces, all encouraging a sense of home in the wild.
Each of Nyala’s five chalets is uniquely styled with earthy interiors, light wood finishes, and a calming palette inspired by the surrounding bush. Four chalets feature deep-set bathtubs, and all include indoor and outdoor showers, air-conditioning, and views of either the bush, river, or pool. Thoughtfully designed and beautifully curated, the rooms blend rustic charm with understated elegance.
Wildlife
The bush is wild, unpredictable, exciting, and surprising. It changes daily, with no two days the same. Wildlife is regularly spotted at the waterhole or on the banks of the seasonal river in front of the lodge. Frequent visitors include an array of birdlife, giraffe, elephants, impala and the occasional predator. The Balule Nature Reserve is a Big 5 reserve, but there are plenty of other animals that are regularly spotted. Species include zebra, warthog, spotted hyena, baboon, hippo, impala, kudu, vervet monkey, and waterbuck.
